In a month marked by what seemed to be contradicting initiatives from the government, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband MP set out the UK’s priorities in a speech at the COP30 climate summit in Brazil. At home, however, his department announced a consultation with proposals to reform the inflation indexation mechanism for the two largest renewable energy support schemes.

The changes the UK government proposed may do real damage to investor sentiment, to the country’s appeal as a welcoming destination for capital deployment and for economic growth ambitions.
